Whitecaps Win In Extra's 3-2

(Eastlake, OH)- West Michigan scored a run in the top of the tenth inning and beat Lake County 3-2. In the tenth, Wynton Bernard doubled to begin the inning. A sacrifice bunt put runners on the corners and a fielder's choice scored Bernard from third base. The Whitecaps won three out of four from Lake County. The Captains (7-20) have lost three straight ballgames.

In the sixth, Willy Adames hit a two out two run single up the middle to give West Michigan (15-12) the first lead in the ballgame. Adames single came off Wander Beras with the bases loaded. The Captains south-paw ended the inning with score 2-0 Whitecaps.

Cody Ferrell singled in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs to start the rally. Clint Frazier hit his first homerun as a Captain into the LF bleachers and the score was tied at 2-2 after eight innings.

RHP Dace Kime (0-4) started the ballgame for the Captains and did not get a decision. Kime pitched two and one third inning, and allowed three hits and he struck out two. Kime left when a comebacker hit off of his forearm. Alex Parades entered in relief, and pitched three and one third innings. Parades allowed two earned runs, on one hit and two walks and he fanned one. Wander Beras pitched one and one third innings and did not allow a run. Beras allowed two hits and one walk. Ben Heller pitched one inning and struck out two. Trevor Frank pitched the ninth and tenth inning for the Captains and took the loss. Frank (0-2) allowed two hits, one earned run and one strikeout.

RHP Austin Kubitza (3-0) started for West Michigan and did not get a decision. Kubitza twirled seven innings and allowed just two hits. He walked one and struck out 12. Kubitza did not allow a run. Will LaMarche entered in relief for West Michigan and allowed the two run homer to Clint Frazier. LaMarche pitched just one inning and allowed the two hits, one walk and one strikeout. Joe Mantiply (2-0) pitched the final two innings to earn the win for the Whitecaps.

The Captains will remain at home in Eastlake, Ohio on Friday to open a three game series with the Dayton Dragons. The Captains will start RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-1, 1.52) and West Michigan will counter with RHP Sal Romano (3-1, 2.33). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM from Classic Park.
