ICYMI: Pinch-runner Joel Booker stole home with two-outs and with the bases loaded in the tenth inning as the Dash walked-off 3-2 against the Mudcats last night at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem. Booker's game winning stolen base of home came after he was inserted into the game to start the tenth inning as a pinch runner for Gavin Sheets. The game was Carolina's first under the new pace-of-play rules implemented by Minor League Baseball before the season.

ABOUT THE LAST ONE: Joel Booker's game winning straight steal of home last night lifted the Dash to a 3-2 series opening victory over the Mudcats. It was also the first stolen base allowed by the Mudcats this season. The Mudcats are currently a league best 9-of-10 in catching would be base stealers. That's good enough for a Carolina League and MiLB leading .900 caught stealing/stolen base against efficiency. Max McDowell is currently 8-of-9 in catching base runners this season.

VS. DASH: The Mudcats continue their first road trip of the season with game two of a four game series versus the Dash tonight at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem. The Mudcats recently won three of four versus the Dash to open the season, but are down 1-0 in the current series... Carolina finished the 2017 season going 19-5 against the Dash, including a perfect 13-0 record when playing the Dash at home in 2017.

MUDCATS STARTER: Left-hander Nathan Kirby gets the start for the Mudcats tonight in Winston-Salem. Kirby enters tonight's outing with one game behind him so far this season. His 2018 debut came on 4/8 where he allowed one run and one hit over 2.1 innings versus the Dash. He also walked one and struck out two while reaching 41 pitches (26 strikes)...The Brewers selected Kirby with the 40th overall pick of the 2015 draft out of the University of Virginia. He began his first full season with Low-A Wisconsin, but landed on the DL in August, before undergoing Tommy John surgery in September of 2015. Kirby missed both the 2016 and 2017 campaigns following the surgical procedures underwent in September 2015 and again in 2016. Kirby was considered one of the top collegiate prospects in the country entering the 2015 draft.

DASH STARTER: Dylan Cease has the game two of four start tonight for the Dash against the Mudcats. Cease is currently 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA over one start this season. That start came on 4/8 against the Mudcats and saw him total seven strikeouts against two walks over 4.2 innings pitched. He also allowed just two hits, but also gave up five runs (two earned) in his 2018 debut. Cease was acquired by the White Sox as part of a trade with the Chicago Cubs last season and is currently rated as the No. 10 prospect in the White Sox system by Baseball America.

THE ROTATION: Through eight games, Carolina's starting rotation is 1-1 with a 1.82 ERA. The starters have also combined to pitch to a 1.50 WHIP and a 7.01 SO/9ip ratio.

GOT CLUTCH: The Mudcats left nine men on base last night and were just 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Carolina is collectively batting just .200 (7th in the CL) with runners in scoring position this season. They are additionally batting .219 (tied for 5th in CL) as a team with runners in scoring position with two-outs in an inning. The Mudcats have also stranded 64 runners on base overall this year (tied for 3rd most in the CL).

SLOPPY D: The Mudcats have scored 27 runs so far this season, but only 14 have been earned to their opponent's respective pitching staffs. Through eight games, Carolina's opponents have been charged with 13 errors, including six by the Dash in the first series of the season and seven by the Keys in the second series. Frederick's defense was charged with five errors alone in Wednesday's morning tilt at Five County Stadium... Carolina's defense, meanwhile, has fared only slightly better as they have been charged with 10 errors over the first week of play this season.

WHERE THEY RANK: Luis Aviles Jr. is 2nd in the Carolina League in stolen bases (5)… Clint Coulter leads the CL in most strikeouts (16), but is also tied for 2nd in extra-base hits (5).

BIG LEAGUE CAMP: Keston Hiura hit .419/.438/.548 (.986 OPS) with 3 R, 13 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBI and 1 BB over 19 MLB Spring Training games before his assignment to minor league camp on 3/17/18… Weston Wilson went 3-for-9 with three runs over eight MLB Spring Training games… Luis Aviles Jr. played in nine MLB Spring Training games and went 0-for-11 with six strikeouts.

THE MUDCATS HAVE…

FARM REPORT: Corey Ray (2017) went 3-for-4 with a double and 5 RBI out of the leadoff spot for Double-A Biloxi last night as the Shuckers defeated the Mississippi Braves 6-5. Nate Griep (2017) closed out that same 6-5 home win for the Shuckers and earned his fourth save of the season.
