The Milwaukee Brewers recently completed a trade with the Atlanta Braves, acquiring right-handed pitchers Chad Sobotka and Patrick Weigel in exchange for infielder Orlando Arcia. Both players reported to the Alternate Training Site as reported and announced by President of Baseball Operations David Stearns.
Coincidentally, Sobotka is a former Mudcats reliever having pitched in Carolina during the 2016 season. Sobotka, 27, started that season with Low-A Rome, but was promoted to Carolina in early July. He then went on to appear in 13 games with Carolina before a late season promotion to Double-A Mississippi. Sobotka totaled 24 strikeouts against just three walks that season with the Mudcats. He also pitched to a 2.04 ERA and 0.85 WHIP over 17.2 innings.

Before the trade, Sobotka had been assigned to Atlanta’s taxi squad to start the 2021 season. He pitched in parts of three seasons with the Braves (2018-20) and has gone 1-0 with a 5.36 ERA over 50 games, all coming in relief, in the big leagues. Sobotka was originally selected by Atlanta in the fourth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.
