Brosius, Sims and Thurman Placed on DL

Furney, Barker and Zavala added from Class A Rome

ZEBULON, NC - The Atlanta Braves announced today several roster moves affecting the Carolina Mudcats roster, including the placement of RHP Tyler Brosius, RHP Lucas Sims and RHP Andrew Thurman on the Carolina disabled list.

With Brosius, Sims and Thurman placed on the disabled list, the Braves have additionally transferred RHP Sean Furney, RHP Brandon Barker and RHP Jorge Zavala to the Mudcats from Class A Rome. The Mudcats roster currently sits at 25 active players with five on the disabled list.

Brosius is 2-1 with a 3.33 ERA over five starts this season. He last pitched on May 7 against Lynchburg and held the Hillcats scoreless over six full innings pitched at Five County Stadium. The former NC State quarterback was also 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA over two starts in May before his move to the disabled list.

Sims last pitched on May 9 in game one of a doubleheader in Salem and held the Red Sox to one unearned run over seven full innings pitched. He struck out six, walked one and gave up just one hit in the complete game victory. He is currently 2-3 with 5.20 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 27 and 2/3 innings pitched this season.

Thurman is 4-2 with a 2.51 ERA over six starts this season. He earned his second quality start this season in his last start on May 10 in Salem against the Red Sox. Thurman had won three straight starts before his move to the disabled list.

Furney was 3-2 with a 3.16 ERA over seven games and four starts this season with the Rome Braves before being transferred to Carolina. He pitched out of the bullpen in each of his first three starts, but had started in each of his last four outings before the move.

Barker was 2-3 with a 4.30 ERA over six games and six starts with Rome before the move. He has struck out 24, walked 11 and allowed 33 hits over 29 and 1/3 innings pitched this season.

Zavala comes to the Mudcats after appearing in seven games with Rome this season. He has not started a game this season and was 1-0 with three saves and a 0.93 ERA out of the Rome bullpen before the move. Zavala has struck out 14, walked four and allowed just six hits over nine and 2/3 innings this season.

Carolina's next series will begin on Friday, May 15 in Zebulon with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. It will then continue on Saturday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m.

Friday's game is the first day of Carolina's "Strikeout Cancer Weekend" event at Five County Stadium. "Strikeout Cancer Weekend" is designed to raise awareness and help in the fight against cancer. It is also designed to help raise funds for local cancer fighting charities.

Mudcats players will wear specially designed jerseys for all three games in the series. Those game worn jerseys will then be made available to fans through a special online auction that will be launched on www.carolinamudcats.com.

All of the proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to local cancer fighting charities including the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, the Vs. Cancer Foundation and Ed Randall's Fans for the Cure.

The Carolina Mudcats are the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The 2015 "Braves New World" season is the first for the Mudcats as an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and their fourth straight in the historic Carolina League. First established in 1991, the Carolina Mudcats are in their 25th straight season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.
