Cary Native Max Povse Promoted to Carolina

ZEBULON, NC - The Atlanta Braves announced today several player transactions including five affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The moves include the promotion of OF Sean Godfrey to Double A Mississippi, the transfer of LHP Yean Carlos Gil to Class A Rome and the transfer of RHP Max Povse and INF/OF Tanner Krietemeier from Rome to Carolina. The Braves additionally assigned RHP Lucas Sims to the Gulf Coast League Braves to begin a rehab assignment.

Godfrey, 23, appeared in 62 games with the Mudcats before the transfer and batted .304/.331/.425 with 12 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 22 RBI. He finished the first half of the season ranked fourth in the Carolina League in average (.304) and third in hits (73).

Gil, 24, led the league in losses and was 1-9 over 13 starts with the Mudcats before his move to Rome. His Carolina League run saw him post a 6.39 ERA with 86 hits, 51 runs and 44 earned runs over 62 innings pitched. Gil was 0-4 with a 3.43 ERA over four starts in April, but 0-4 with a 9.13 ERA over five starts in May and 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA over four starts in June.

Povse, 21, was 4-2 with a 2.56 ERA over 12 first half starts before being promoted to Carolina. The 6'8" right-hander finished his 2015 campaign with the Rome Braves with 50 strikeouts and 16 walks over 59.2 innings pitched.

The Braves selected Povse in the third round of the 2014 June draft and with the 102nd overall pick out of UNC Greensboro. The Cary native was born in Raleigh and went to Green Hope High School before becoming a Spartan in 2012.

Krietemeier, 23, was hitting .243 with 42 hits, 18 runs, seven doubles, two triples, a home run and 23 RBI with Rome before his transfer to the Mudcats and the Carolina League.

Sims, 21, was placed on the disabled list on May 14 and has not pitched for the Mudcats since May 9. He posted a 5.20 ERA over six starts before going on the disabled list and was 2-3 overall this season. Sims started the season 1-3 with an 8.59 ERA in April, but was 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA over two starts in May before the injury.

The Carolina Mudcats are the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The 2015 "Braves New World" season is the first for the Mudcats as an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and their fourth straight in the historic Carolina League. First established in 1991, the Carolina Mudcats are in their 25th straight season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.
