Cary's Povse named Pitcher of the Week

Povse has struck out 14 over 13 innings and two starts this seaon

ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats, the proud Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and member of the historic Carolina League, are excited to announce today that RHP Max Povse was named the Carolina League pitcher of the week for the week ending on April 17.

Povse finished the first week of play in 2016 at 1-0 over two starts and pitched to a 0.00 ERA. The 6'8" right-hander from Green Hope High School in Cary has struck out 14 batters, walked two and allowed just four hits over 13 innings pitched and two starts.

At the time of the announcement, Povse led the Carolina League in earned run average, WHIP (0.46) and batting average against (.098). He was also second in strikeouts with 14 and third in lowest walks per nine innings pitched (1.38).

Povse's next start is scheduled for this Wednesday morning when the Mudcats play their series finale against the visiting Salem Red Sox. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.
