The Braves promoted Evan Phillips to Double-A Mississippi
June 28, 2016

ZEBULON, NC - The Atlanta Braves announced several player transactions today with one affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The roster moves included the promotion of relief pitcher Evan Phillips from the Carolina Mudcats to the Mississippi Braves.

Phillips, 21, pitched to a 1.27 ERA over 21 appearances with the Mudcats before his promotion to Double-A Mississippi. The Clayton High School alum was also 2-1 with 19 strikeouts, eight walks and a .180 batting average against this season. He was named to the 2016 Carolina League All-Star team earlier this month and is in just his second professional season. The Braves drafted Phillips in the 17th round of the 2015 draft out of UNC Wilmington.

Phillips fills the roster spot in Mississippi vacated by former Mudcats reliever Mauricio Cabrera who was recalled by the Braves on Monday, June 27. The Dominican born Cabrera made his Major League debut that same night against the Cleveland Indians in Atlanta. Cabrera, 22, was 2-2 with 28 strikeouts over 23 games and 31.0 innings for the Mudcats in 2015. He is the second former Mudcats player to pitch for the Atlanta Braves since Carolina became an affiliate of the Braves before the 2015 season.

The Mudcats roster is currently at 24 active players with eight on the disabled list.

In summary:
