Kinman promoted, Whalen and Cook added to Mudcats

ZEBULON, NC - The Atlanta Braves announced today several player transactions including three affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The moves made today include the transfer of LHP Kyle Kinman from Carolina to Double-A Mississippi and the assignment of recently acquired RHP Matt Whalen and free agent RHP Clayton Cook to Carolina's active roster.

The Mudcats roster is currently at 25 active players with four on the disabled list and one with the club for a Major League rehab assignment.

Kinman, 24, was originally transferred to Carolina on 7/2 from Rome and was 0-0 with a save and posted a 0.87 ERA over six games with the Mudcats before the transfer to Double-A. He struck out 16 and walked only three over 10.1 innings pitched with the Mudcats this season.

Whalen, 21, was recently acquired by the Braves in a trade with the New York Mets. The trade was completed on 7/24 and involved both Whalen and RHP John Gant going from the Mets to the Braves in exchange for UTL Kelly Johnson and 3B Juan Uribe. Whalen was 4-5 with a 3.36 ERA over 15 games and 14 starts with the St. Lucie Mets in the Florida State League before the trade.

Cook, 25, was signed by the Braves as a minor league free agent after being released by the Cleveland Indians organization. He has pitched for the Lynchburg Hillcats and Akron RubberDucks this season and was 3-2 with a 5.12 ERA over 18 games and three starts between both stops in 2015 before his release. Cook was a member of the Mudcats in both 2012 and 2014. He was 2-4 with a 6.02 ERA over 20 games and one start with the Mudcats in 2014.

The Carolina Mudcats are the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The 2015 "Braves New World" season is the first for the Mudcats as an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and their fourth straight in the historic Carolina League. First established in 1991, the Carolina Mudcats are in their 25th straight season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.
