Yamamoto named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week

ZEBULON, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, are thrilled to announce today that starting pitcher Jordan Yamamoto was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on September 4. Yamamoto pitched to a 0.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 14.0 innings and two starts during the final week of play.

Yamamoto struck out seven, walked one and scattered seven hits in his final start of the season on September 3 versus the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. He also worked through seven scoreless frames and struck out seven while allowing just three hits in his penultimate start of the 2017 campaign on August 29 versus Winston-Salem. Yamamoto pitched to a season high 81 game score on August 29 versus Winston-Salem and totaled a 73 game score in his season finale on September 3.

The Honolulu, Hawaii native closed out the 2017 season going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over two starts and Carolina League high 14.0 innings during the weekly award window of August 28 and September 4. He also totaled 14 strikeouts, two walks, 10 hits allowed, a 0.86 WHIP and a .196 average against in his final two starts.
The 21-year-old pitcher finished 4-1 with a 0.27 ERA over his last five starts (9.27 SO/9ip, .176 AVG) and ended the year with a streak of 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings over his final four appearances.
Overall, Yamamoto finished his stellar 2017 season at 9-4 with a 2.51 ERA, .223 average against and 113 strikeouts over 111.0 innings pitched. He ended up leading Carolina League pitchers with at least 110.0 innings pitched in earned run average, but did not reach the minimum number of innings (112.0) required to officially qualify for the league's ERA title.
The Brewers selected Yamamoto in the 12th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Saint Louis (High) School in Honolulu. He went 0-1 with a 4.57 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 10 games and three starts in his debut season with the Arizona League Brewers in 2014. Yamamoto then went 1-6 with a 7.84 ERA over 14 games and 11 starts and struck out 59 in 62.0 innings with the Helena Brewers in 2015. 
Yamamoto's first full season came in 2016 when he moved on to Low-A Wisconsin and finished the year going 7-8 with a 3.82 ERA in 27 games, 18 games and 134.1 innings pitched with the Timber Rattlers. Yamamoto finished second in the Midwest League in strikeouts with 152 last season.
Yamamoto, Lucas Erceg and Monte Harrison each earned Carolina League Player of the Week awards this season for the Mudcats. Erceg was a two-time Carolina League Player of Week award winner having won the award on July 31 and August 28. Harrison was named the Carolina League Player of the Week earlier this season on August 7.
