Fernando Romero, LaMonte Wade and A.J. Murray promoted to Fort Myers

Brian Olson and Austin Diemer join Kernels

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Fernando Romero, OF LaMonte Wade and C A.J. Murray have been promoted to Fort Myers and that C Brian Olson and OF Austin Diemer will join the Kernels. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

Olson played eight games for the Kernels earlier this season, batting .296 (11-27) with three doubles and four RBI. He was assigned to Fort Myers on May 27 and played in nine games for the Miracle. The Twins selected Olson in the 34th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Seattle University.

Diemer played in 37 games for the Kernels in 2015, batting .280 with 2 HR and 15 RBI. He started the 2016 season at Fort Myers, but was assigned to Extended Spring Training on May 31. The Twins selected Diemer in the 28th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Cal State Fullerton.

Romero made five starts for the Kernels, posting a 4-1 record and 1.93 ERA. In 28 IP, he allowed six runs (all earned) with five walks and 25 strikeouts. Romero started the 2016 season on the DL and was activated on May 20th.

Wade was a member of the Kernels 2016 Opening Day Roster and in 56 games, hit .280 with 4 HR and 27 RBI. He was named a starting outfielder for the MWL West Team in the 2016 MWL All-Star game and was selected by the Twins in the 9th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Maryland.

Murray was also a member of the Kernels 2016 Opening Day Roster. In 59 games, he hit .262 with six HR and 33 RBI. He was named a reserve catcher in the 2016 MWL All-Star Game for the West team and went 1-2 with a 2-run HR. He was selected by the Twins in the 14th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Georgia Tech.

With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at 23 active players, two below the Midwest League maximum of 25, with six players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.

The Kernels begin the second half of the 2016 MWL season with a four game series against the Beloit Snappers, the MWL Affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, on Thursday, June 23rd at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM.
