Kernels bats quieted in 5-1 loss to Captains

Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Kernels couldn’t solve the Lake County bullpen on Friday evening, falling 5-1 on Star Wars Night. Three Captains relievers combined for 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits as the Kernels went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position on the night. Falling to 25-12 on the season, Cedar Rapids remains two games up in the West Division standings as Wisconsin was downed by South Bend.

A three-run home run started the scoring in the first inning for Lake County, with the Kernels getting their lone tally in the second on a Wander Javier RBI single through the left side that plated Jair Camargo.

The Captains would get one a piece in the fifth and seventh on a solo homer and an RBI triple respectively.

Melvi Acosta retired all five he faced in relief, Bobby Milacki worked 2.0 innings of one-run ball with a pair of strikeouts and Andrew Cabezas tossed a scoreless ninth for the Kernels.

Alerick Soularie had a two-hit game for Cedar Rapids while Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Will Holland and Kyler Fedko each reached base twice.

Game five of the series is set for 6:35 p.m. on Saturday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium with postgame fireworks scheduled to follow the game.
