*Cedar Rapids, IA – *For the Kernels, the second game of their playoff preview series against South Bend seemed like a carbon copy of the first game.

For the second-straight night, Cedar Rapids plated six runs in the eighth inning and walked away with a win. Wednesday night’s 8-4 decision came one night after the Kernels scored six 8th-inning runs in an 8-6 victory.

Cedar Rapids trailed 4-2 when Charles Mack connected for his fifth home run of the season. His solo shot to right field led off the frame and sparked the rally. Dylan Neuse drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and Kyler Fedko (single) and Brooks Lee (double) each drove in two runs as the Kernels sent 10 batters to plate in the inning.

Malik Barrington (1-0) records the victory in relief for the Kernels, despite facing only three batters. He threw 1.1 innings and struck one batter after replacing David Festa, who had a solid start. Festa tossed 6.2 innings, allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) while recording three strikeouts.

Game three of the series is set for 6:35 p.m. Thursday at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Stadium in Cedar Rapids. It is Beat Cancer Night for the Kernels, who will be wearing special jerseys that are now available for exclusively through the LiveSource app.
