CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Beloit Snappers shut out the Cedar Rapids Kernels for a 4-0 victory Sunday at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Cedar Rapids (40-32) won the six-game series, 4-2, and leads the 24-game season series with Beloit (31-41) by a 10-8 margin.

Connor Scott drove in Sunday’s first run during the third inning. He launched a two-out solo shot over the right-field wall that gave the Snappers their 1-0 edge.

Three more tallies within the ninth pushed Beloit to a 4-0 advantage. Ricky Aracena hit an RBI double which was followed by Scott’s two-run single.

Beloit pitchers George Soriano and Jake Walters (2-2) combined for the two-hitter. Soriano recorded a game-high-tying eight strikeouts over four shutout innings in his start. Walters followed with five scoreless frames and earned the win. Soriano and Walters combined to retire 17 hitters in a row during one stretch and held the final 22 batters to one total walk and no hits.

Cody Laweryson (0-2) took the loss for Cedar Rapids. Laweryson matched Soriano with eight strikeouts but gave up Beloit’s go-ahead run as part of his five innings of work.
