July 30, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC - Highly respected San Francisco Giants scout Ed Creech, a native of Columbia, SC who helped mold the likes of J.D. Drew, Shane Victorino, Javier Vazquez and Milton Bradley, will be enshrined in the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame on Friday, August 7, prior to the Charleston RiverDogs game against the Savannah Sand Gnats at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

This will be the eighth year of honoring pro scouts, with the selections announced by The Goldklang Group, owners of the Charleston RiverDogs.

"What an honor it is to be included with the past honorees," said Creech. "This honor is only due to the wonderful people I have worked with in my career, and I thank everyone so much for including me."

"The honor of inducting scouts that have given their working careers to this profession and the game of baseball remains a tremendous privilege," said Tyler Tumminia, Senior Vice President of The Goldklang Group. "Over the past several years the SHOF has transformed from an idea into an initiative that is widely lauded within the industry. We are proud to continue this tradition of celebrating the careers of these deserving and distinguished scouts."

Criteria for induction includes a minimum of 20 years of pro scouting experience, with selection based on a combination of quantifiable success in the field, contributions made to the game in other areas of the sport whether professional or amateur, and importantly, their involvement and dedication to the local community that is honoring them through induction.

Now in his seventh year in San Francisco's organization, Creech served as the Pittsburgh Pirates' director of scouting. He has more than 37 years in professional baseball.

The 63-year-old Creech, currently a senior advisor for San Francisco, has also served as a scouting director with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1999-01), St. Louis Cardinals (1998) and Montreal Expos (1994-97). During his tenure as a scouting director, he ushered 54 of his draft picks to the major league, including the likes of Michael Barrett, Brian Schneider, Jack Wilson, Tom Gorzelanny and Paul Maholm.

Creech, who graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Ga., played six seasons in the Expos organization after being the club's second round selection in the 1973 draft. Following his playing career, he became a coach and manager for six years in the Montreal group (1982-85, 1990-91). After serving as an area scout for the team from 1985-91, he was promoted to the Expos scouting supervisor from 1991-93.

He currently resides in Moultrie, GA with his wife, Mary Ann, his daughter, Kacey, and sons, Matthew and Nathaniel.
