CHARLESTON, S.C. - After combining with a pair of teammates for just the second nine-inning no-hitter in RiverDogs history on Thursday, Charleston right-hander Janson Junk has been named the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 13-19 as announced by the league office on Monday.
Junk, 22, combined with fellow righties Austin DeCarr and Daniel Alvarez for the no-hit feat as the Dogs bested the Shorebirds, 7-1, at Perdue Stadium. The Seattle product fanned six over the first five innings, lowering his ERA to a season-low 3.72 mark while picking up his sixth win. The Yankees' 22nd round selection in 2017 has allowed one run in five of his last seven outings.
Junk and his teammates' feat marked the first nine-inning no-no since Jim Brower, now an assistant coach with the Seattle Mariners, completed the feat himself in a 3-0 win at College Park over Columbus on August 3, 1994. It was the first no-hitter for the RiverDogs of any kind since Jason Standridge turned in seven hitless innings on June 28, 1999. It was the first combined no-hitter in team history and the seventh in the history of the franchise (circa 1980).
Junk is the second Holy City hurler to be named Pitcher of the Week this season after Garrett Whitlock, now with the Tampa Tarpons, received the league's weekly accolades the first week of May. Charleston's pitching staff currently ranks second in the SAL in ERA (3.18).

The RiverDogs (57-65, 24-30) continue their longest remaining road trip on Tuesday night at 7:05 in West Virginia after splitting the first two games of the series in Charleston North. The Dogs return to start a four-game homestand on Thursday night, the first of eight remaining contests at Riley Park this season. Junk is scheduled to take the ball in the series opener.
RiverDogs single-game tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are available for the remainder of the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com/tickets.
