Celebrities, Entertainment Acts, and Tribute Nights Revealed

February 27, 2014

(Uptown Charlotte, NC) - Headlined by Duck Dynasty's "Mountain Man", professional wrestling legends George "the Animal" Steele and Tito Santana, two nationally-renowned entertainment acts - the ZOOperstars! and the Russian Bar Trio - and special tributes and appearances by former Charlotte O's, Charlotte Hornets and former Negro League players -- the Charlotte Knights are set to take entertainment to the next level at BB&T Ballpark during their inaugural season in Uptown Charlotte.

Starting with April, the Knights will host a Negro League Tribute on Jackie Robinson Day, Tuesday, April 15, at BB&T Ballpark. Robinson broke baseball's color barrier on April 15, 1947, and Major League Baseball honors his legacy every year on that date. Several former Negro League players will be on hand to meet and greet fans and sign autographs. A full list of players to appear at the 7:05 p.m. game against the Durham Bulls will be announced at a later date.

Later in that week, the Knights will honor legendary Charlotte O's players for a special Charlotte O's Tribute Night at BB&T Ballpark on Friday, April 18. The Charlotte O's played at Crockett Park in the Queen City from 1976-1987. The Knights will host a historic tribute on the 18th, and fans will have a chance to cheer on more than 30 former Charlotte O's. The Knights will face the Gwinnett Braves at 7:05 p.m. in the finale of a three-game series.

The month of May ignites with a sizzling Cinco de Mayo celebration on Monday, May 5 for the 7:05 p.m. game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. WWE Hall-of-Famer Tito Santana will meet and greet fans and sign autographs. Billed from Tocula, Mexico, Santana was a two-time Intercontinental Champion and a two-time Tag Team Champion during his days with the WWF (now WWE). Currently, Santana, known by his real name of Merced Solis, is a middle-school teacher in New Jersey.

On Sunday, May 25 and Saturday, July 5, the World Famous ZOOperstars! will bring their hilarious inflatable act to BB&T Ballpark to entertain fans from start to finish of each game. The ZOOperstars! are a truly unique act showcasing beloved sports figures in animal form. Currently, the ZOOperstars! perform at more than 200 events per year and include the likes of Mackerel Jordan, Jeff Gordog, and Ken Giraffey, Jr., among others.

The Knights will show their support for local animals on June 8, and fans can bring their dogs to BB&T Ballpark for the team's annual Bark in the Ballpark celebration. This year, the Knights will take it to a new level by welcoming WWE Hall-of-Famer George "the Animal" Steele to the ballpark to meet and greet fans and sign autographs. Known as "the Animal" during his wrestling career -- which lasted from 1967-1988 -- Steele wrestled against the likes of Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, and other well-known names over an astonishing 22-year wrestling career. In 1994, he transitioned to the big screen and appeared in Tim Burton's movie Ed Wood as Swedish actor/wrestler Tor Johnson. "The Animal" was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame a year later in 1995.

Tim Guraedy, better known to fans as "Mountain Man" from A&E's hit show Duck Dynasty, will make a special appearance at BB&T Ballpark on Monday, June 23 to meet and greet fans, sign free autographs, and take part in some special activities - including a "best beard" contest. The fourth season premiere of Duck Dynasty drew 11.8 million viewers; the most-watched non-fiction cable series in history.

On Tuesday, August 5, the Knights will host a special Charlotte Hornets Tribute Night at BB&T Ballpark. The Charlotte (baseball) Hornets were founded in 1892 and lasted in some form until 1973. The Hornets were a Minor League affiliate for the Washington Senators and Minnesota Twins. National Baseball Hall of Famers Harmon Killebrew and Early Wynn played for the team before making their way to the majors.

On Saturday, August 9, the Knights will welcome the Russian Bar Trio to BB&T Ballpark for an incredible night of entertainment. The Russian Bar Trio is a circus act that features high-flying gymnastics skills. The acrobatic act has toured with Cirque de Soleil and has performed on America's Got Talent, The Oprah Show, and The Ellen Degeneres Show.

The Knights are set to open BB&T Ballpark on Friday, April 11 at 7:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides.
