(ROCHESTER, NY) -- Shortstop José Rondόn launched his team-high 17th home run of the season, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of their three-game series to the Rochester Red Wings by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon from Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. The Knights won two of three games in the series and three of six games overall on the road trip.

The Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks to an RBI single by catcher Dustin Garneau , who finished the game with two hits on the day for the Knights. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Red Wings took a 2-1 lead when Rochester center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker ripped a two-run home run off Charlotte RHP Spencer Adams (3-5, 3.36).

Rochester's 2-1 lead didn't last long. In the top of the sixth inning, Rondόn, 24, connected on a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2. The homer was his third of the road trip and fourth in the month of August. It was one of Charlotte's seven hits on the day.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Rochester right fielder Jon Kemmer singled home the go-ahead run to give the Red Wings a 3-2 lead. All three runs came off Adams, who was saddled with the loss. He tossed six innings and threw 89 pitches on the day. Relievers Rob Scahill and Caleb Frare held the Red Wings scoreless over the final two innings, but the Knights fell just short in their attempt to sweep the Red Wings.

The Knights will now make the trek back home to Uptown Charlotte to open a seven-game homestand on Monday. The Knights will host the Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) in a three-game series starting on Monday night. Pre-game radio coverage of Monday's 7:04 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
