(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped game three of their four-game series to the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 8-5 on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 9,717 fans at BB&T Ballpark. Charlotte second baseman Ryan Goins pulled the Knights to within three runs in the ninth inning with a solo home run, his ninth of the season. Goins had a team-high three hits on Saturday (3-for-4).
Charlotte outfielder Luis Robert continued his hot hitting in just his third career Triple-A game. Robert, who hit two home runs in his Triple-A debut on Thursday night, went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored on Saturday. In three games with the Knights since his promotion from Double-A Birmingham, the 21-year-old is batting .462 (6-for-13). Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo , who continued his major league rehab assignment on Saturday, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
RHP Odrisamer Despaigne (3-4, 3.52) started for the Knights and was saddled with the loss after he allowed five runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings pitched. RHP Connor Walsh gave up three runs in the seventh inning, while RHP Carson Fulmer and RHP Jimmy Cordero tossed a scoreless inning each.
Gwinnett starter Mike Foltynewicz (3-1, 5.09) earned the win for the Stripers after he gave up four runs over five innings of work. Gwinnett used three relievers to record the final 12 outs of the game. With the win, the Stripers have won two of three games in the series.
