Knights Lose Monday's Opener 8-6

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of their four-game series to the Pawtucket Red Sox on Monday by a score of 8-6 at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. RHP Thyago Vieira (0-4, 4.76) came on in the top of the ninth inning to close the game out, but the PawSox rallied to score three runs in the inning for the victory. Vieira allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and was saddled with the loss.

RHP Tyler Danish and RHP Ricardo Pinto were solid in relief of starter Matt Tomshaw , who gave up five runs on five hits over two innings. Danish allowed just two hits over four shutout innings, while Pinto allowed just two hits over two shutout innings. Danish lowered his ERA to 2.97 on the season.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Nicky Delmonico continued his major league rehab assignment and went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Left fielder Eloy Jiménez and designated hitter Matt Skole added two hits apiece in the loss. As a team, the Knights recorded 11 hits total on the evening.

A total of 8,441 fans came through the gates on Monday, putting the team just 5,762 fans away from welcoming their three-millionth Knights fan in BB&T Ballpark history. The Knights will continue their seven-game homestand from BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday and will welcome their three-millionth fan.

On Tuesday, the Knights will play game two of their four-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox (Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox).
