Knights Stun the ‘Shrimp 8-6 on Saturday Night

(JACKSONVILLE, FL) – A three-run ninth inning propelled the Charlotte Knights to a thrilling 8-6 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday in game two of the three-game series from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL.
Down by a score of 6-5 in the ninth after the Jumbo Shrimp took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a bases-loaded walk, the Knights mounted an impressive comeback to earn the club’s first win of the second half. The win also snapped a five-game losing skid for Charlotte.

Center fielder Mark Payton, who led the game off with his 13th home run of the season, played a key role in the three-run ninth. Payton singled home the tying run in the ninth to make it a 6-6 game.
Shortstop Lenyn Sosa followed with an RBI single to give the Knights the 7-6 lead.

The Knights weren’t done there as designated hitter Adam Haseley followed with an RBI single to give the Knights an 8-6 lead. In all, the Knights mustered five consecutive hits in the ninth inning against Jacksonville reliever George Soriano (1-2, 4.43).
Charlotte RHP Parker Markel walked home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning, which gave the Jumbo Shrimp the 6-5 lead heading into the final inning of the game. LHP Anderson Severino (1-3, 10.69), who retired the final batter in the bottom of the eighth inning, earned his first win of the season. RHP Daniel Winkler later retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn his first save with the Knights this season.
Catcher Carlos Pérez had a strong day at the plate for Charlotte. The team’s backstop launched a two-run home run in the top of the third inning and added another two-run blast in the eighth inning. His second home run of the game pushed him ahead of Payton for the team lead with 14. He finished the night 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. It was his second two-homer game of the season (he also hit two home runs on May 3 at Gwinnett).

RHP J.B. Olson started the game for the Knights and allowed just one run over two innings. It was his 10th start of the season.
