(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) – Catcher Deivy Grullón launched his first home run as a Charlotte Knight. Centerfielder Luis González homered for the fourth time in the month of July and drove in three runs as the Charlotte Knights fell to the Gwinnett Stripers by a final score of 11-10 on Thursday night from Truist Field.

Yermín Mercedes opened the scoring in the first with his fifth double of the season down the left field line in the first inning to plate two runs. González notched two more hits, a two-run shot in the first inning to put the Knights ahead 4-1. His second hit came in the third inning as he laced a single to centerfield, scoring Mercedes from third base.

Newly knighted, Grullón launched a mammoth two run home run that traveled 453-feet, clearing the batters eye in dead center to extend the Knights lead to 8-3 in the fifth inning. Gwinnett would add eight runs over the final three innings to complete the comeback.

RHP Jonathan Stiever (3-4, 5.72 ERA) started and did not factor in the decision. Stiever tied his season high in strikeouts with eight while going five innings, giving up three hits, three runs, and three earned runs. Four Knights relievers combined to walk 10 batters over the final three innings of relief.

The Knights will continue this six-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers on Friday night from Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina at 7:04 PM. The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and charlotteknights.com.
