Putnam to Chicago, De Los Santos to Charlotte

April 17, 2014

(Uptown Charlotte, NC) - Charlotte right-handed pitcher Zach Putnam, who was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA for the Knights in four games this season, had his contract purchased by Chicago today. LHP Frank De Los Santos, who was 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA in five games for Double-A Birmingham this season, has been promoted to Charlotte. In another move, RHP Frank Francisco has been transferred from Charlotte to Great Falls (R).

In Chicago, Putnam takes the place of LHP Donnie Veal, who was designated for assignment by the team today. Putnam, 26, has not allowed a run in four appearances this season and has allowed just four hits to go along with 11 strikeouts over that span (six innings pitched). He was signed as a free agent by the White Sox on November 27, 2013.

Putnam becomes the third Knights player to earn a promotion to Chicago this season. He joins RHP Jake Petricka (April 4) and outfielder Jordan Danks (April 10). Last season, the White Sox promoted 21 players from Charlotte.

De Los Santos, 26, was acquired by the White Sox on September 21, 2013 in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. The 6'0" left-hander made 26 appearances for Triple-A Durham last season and posted a 1-2 record with one save and a 5.34 ERA.

The Knights will continue their three-game series with the Gwinnett Braves tonight from BB&T Ballpark. LHP Charlie Leesman (0-1, 2.70) gets the start for the Knights, while the Bulls will hand the ball to RHP Yunesky Maya (0-0, 2.35).
