Wilkins Promoted to Charlotte on Monday

(Fort Mill, SC) - Andy Wilkins, who was hitting .288 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs for the Double-A Birmingham Barons through 67 games this season, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights on Monday, June 24. Wilkins will take the roster spot of outfielder Brandon Short, who was assigned to Birmingham. 

At the time of the promotion to Charlotte, Wilkins was tied for the Southern League lead in RBIs, fourth in on-base percentage (.386), and tied for eighth in batting average. The Tulsa, OK native is ranked as the 12th best prospect in the White Sox system by Baseball America. 

Wilkins, 24, ranked among the Southern League leaders in a number of offensive categories in 2012. He was seventh in home runs (17), eighth in RBIs (69), tied for eighth in doubles (28), and ninth in walks (63). He was a fifth round pick of the White Sox in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. 

Short appeared in 30 games for the Knights this season and was hitting .186 (18-97) with four doubles, two triples, and six RBIs.
