PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 29, 2017) - Ryan Boldt picked up three hits and three RBI Tuesday as the Charlotte Stone Crabs split a doubleheader with the Clearwater Threshers at Charlotte Sports Park.
Boldt's totals move him further up the Stone Crabs' (67-63, 36-26) record books. During Tuesday's performance, Boldt jumped from seventh into a tie for third in single-season history in hits (129). He also moved from seventh to fifth in RBI (62).  
In Game 1, Brandon Lawson (5-5) turned in six innings of two run baseball while striking out three to earn the win.
In a scoreless game in the bottom of the first, Lucius Fox led off the inning with a single to right. After Michael Brosseau reached on an error, Boldt smashed a triple to right center to give Charlotte a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, David Olmedo-Barrera bounced a ball to short with one out. Clearwater (66-67, 28-35) shortstop Jose Gomez fired to the plate but Boldt beat the throw, giving the Stone Crabs a 3-0 advantage.
Still up by that count in the bottom of the third, Brosseau lined a single to right before getting thrown out on a single from Boldt. With a runner at first and one out, Kevin Padlo singled to right to move Boldt to third. Olmedo-Barrera followed with a flair to right to score Boldt and make it 4-0. Threshers starting pitcher Ranger Suárez (2-4) then threw wildly to first on a pickoff attempt, allowing Padlo to score from third and make it 5-0.
With Charlotte still up five in the fifth, Olmedo-Barrera singled to start the inning before Peter Maris clobbered a two-run homer to right center to make it 7-0. Later in the inning, Fox pulled a double to the left field corner to score Thomas Milone and make the count 8-0.
Clearwater connected on two solo home runs in the sixth, but Spencer Jones worked a scoreless seventh to seal an 8-3 victory.
In Game 2, the Threshers used two singles and a two-run home run from Darick Hall in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead before holding on for a 3-2 win.
The Stone Crabs got 2.2 scoreless innings from their bullpen but were unable to push across the tying run in the seventh.
With the doubleheader split and a Fort Myers win Tuesday, the Stone Crabs fall to three games back of earning a potential must-win doubleheader with the Miracle. Five games remain in the season.
The Stone Crabs and Threshers will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday at 10:05 a.m. Brock Burke (4-6, 4.95) makes the start for Charlotte against Seranthony Domínguez (4-3, 2.97) of Clearwater. Coverage begins at 9:50 a.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
