CLEARWATER, Fla. (June 3, 2017) - Brandon Lowe homered twice Saturday but José Taveras turned in a complete game for the Clearwater Threshers as the Charlotte Stone Crabs fell 3-2 at Spectrum Field.
Lowe's home runs represented the only scoring on the night for Charlotte (25-28). He went opposite-field in the first inning and pulled a homer to right in the fifth. Saturday was the first multi-home run game of Lowe's career.
The University of Maryland product now leads the Stone Crabs with nine home runs. Nobody else on the team has more than three. Lowe has already surpassed his 2016 home run total (5) as well as the team-high for the Stone Crabs in 2016 (8).
Benton Moss (1-1) dealt a quality start for Charlotte in the loss, allowing one earned run on four hits over six innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Taveras (5-2), meanwhile, surrendered six hits while fanning two. It was the first time he went nine innings since he tossed a shutout for the DSL Phillies on July 2, 2014.  
With Charlotte leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Threshers (32-24) first baseman Wilson Garcia reached on an error before Cornelius Randolph doubled him to third. Two batters later, Grenny Cumana reached on a fielding error, which allowed Clearwater to tie the game. With runners at the corners and one out, catcher Austin Bossart laid down a successful squeeze bunt, scoring Randolph to give the Threshers a 3-2 lead.
Saturday's game was finished in a season-low one hour and 49 minutes.
The Stone Crabs will look to even the series at noon on Sunday. Eduar Lopez (3-5, 4.44) makes the start for Charlotte against Franklyn Kilomé (3-2, 3.02)of Clearwater. Coverage begins at 11:45 a.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
