PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (July 10, 2018) - The St. Lucie Mets defeated the Charlotte Stone Crabs 5-1 Tuesday, spoiling a pair of pitching debuts at Charlotte Sports Park. 
Charlotte (43-43, 9-10) starter Josh Fleming  (0-1) turned in a quality start in his High-A debut. Fleming threw six innings, giving up two runs on nine hits while striking out three Mets. Reliever Jose Disla worked an inning in his first High-A game.
St. Lucie (34-51, 7-11) opened the scoring with a rally in the third when Andrés Giménez hit a single to center, scoring Ian Strom scored from third. Strom reached third base on a single by Mets second baseman Luis Carpio.
In the top of the sixth, the Mets started off the inning with a single to left by Michael Paez. The next batter, Jeremy Vasquez doubled to center scoring Paez giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Stone Crabs (43-43, 9-10) began a two-out rally courtesy of a single by Rene Pinto . The next batter was Jake Fraley , who hit a single to advance Pinto to second. Jermaine Palacios  then smacked a single to right to score Pinto from second and make it 2-1. 
The Mets added two insurance runs in the eighth on singles by T.J. Rivera and Gene Cone to open up a 4-1 lead. They tacked on one more run in the ninth on a triple from Andres Gimenez to cap the scoring at 5-1.
Game three of the four game set will see right-hander Riley O'Brien  (1-1) face off against southpaw David Peterson (2-2) of St. Lucie. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Wednesday with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball network.
