DAYTONA, Fla. (April 9, 2018) - David Olmedo-Barrera homered but the Stone Crabs fell 2-1 in a rain-shortened six inning game against the Daytona Tortugas at Jackie Robinson Ballpark Monday night.
With no score in the bottom of the third, Charlotte starter Willy Ortiz walked the bases loaded with two outs. He then uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Daniel Sweet to score, giving the Tortugas a 1-0 lead.
Ortiz lasted three innings, allowing one run without surrendering a hit. He struck out five and walked three in his High-A debut.
With the Stone Crabs still down 1-0 in the top of the sixth, Olmedo-Barrera crushed a solo home run to right to tie the game at one.
In the bottom of the inning, Taylor Trammell singled to center against Stone Crabs reliever J.D. Busfield (0-1). After Luis Gonzalez singled to right to move Trammell to second, Tyler Stephenson grounded a base hit to center. That scored Trammell to give Daytona a 2-1 lead. One batter later, a rain delay stopped the progress of the game. The contest was eventually called due to rain.
Tortugas starter Seth Varner (1-0) went six innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits while striking out three and walking one.
