PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (July 21, 2019) - Kaleo Johnson ripped a walk-off base hit to the wall in left field Sunday, propelling the Stone Crabs to a 2-1 walk-off win over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Charlotte Sports Park.
With the Stone Crabs (59-38, 24-7) trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Jermaine Palacios and Jake Palomaki both singled to center to put two men on. With two outs, Joey Roach lined a game-tying single to center to draw the game even at 1-1.
With the game still tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, Wander Franco drew a walk. After Michael Smith was hit by a pitch, a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. After an intentional walk to Moises Gomez loaded the bases, Johnson rocked the game-winner to deep left to give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.
Stone Crabs right-hander Jack Labosky (2-4) went two hitless innings to earn the win in relief.
The first five innings of the 2-1 game were played on Saturday night. Tobias Myers worked three scoreless innings in his return from the injured list, and Cristopher Sanchez turned in two innings in relief before a 1 a.m. curfew suspended action.
Dunedin (60-37, 19-13) edged out Charlotte 4-3 in Game 2.
The Stone Crabs will now play a doubleheader with the Jupiter Hammerheads at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Coverage of the twin bill starts at 5:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
