JUPITER, Fla. (June 23, 2018) - Jermaine Palacios and Robbie Tenerowicz both came through with clutch hits in the Charlotte Stone Crabs' three-run top of the tenth to beat the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-1 in ten innings Saturday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
With the game tied at 1-1 entering the inning, Palacios immediately tripled to the corner in left to score automatic runner Tristan Gray to give the Stone Crabs (36-34) a 2-1 lead. After Jake Fraley walked, Eric Carter (2-3) struck out Rene Pinto . Lucius Fox was then hit by a pitch before Josh Lowe struck out. With the bases loaded and two outs, Tenerowicz lined a base hit to center to score two and make it 4-1 Charlotte.
Spencer Jones (3-2) worked four innings of relief to get the win, allowing four hits while fanning two.
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the second, Cardinals (40-27) right fielder Johan Mieses tripled to the right field corner before Brian O'Keefe drove him in with a single to right to give Palm Beach a 1-0 lead.
Down 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Fraley led off with a double to center. Two batters later, Lucius Fox pulled a single into left to score Fraley and tie the game at one. Right after that play, the tarp was put on the field and one hour and 20-minute rain delay ensued.
The rain delay chased both starting pitchers. Charlotte lefty Brock Burke went four innings, allowing one run on four hits.
Saturday's win was the fifth extra-inning game the Stone Crabs have played in the last six days. Charlotte won three of those five contests.
The Stone Crabs will go for the series win over the Cardinals Sunday afternoon at 1p.m. Benton Moss (1-0, 1.00) takes the ball for Charlotte against Casey Meisner (3-1, 3.75) of Palm Beach. Coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
