TAMPA, Fla. (May 22, 2018) - The Tampa Tarpons walked off with a 3-2 win in 10 innings over the Charlotte Stone Crabs Tuesday, pushing the winning run across on a catcher's interference at Steinbrenner Field.
With the game tied at two in the bottom of the tenth, Tampa (24-19) center fielder Dom Thompson-Williams swung and clipped the glove of Charlotte (20-23) catcher Zacrey Law . With the bases loaded, Law's error forced home the winning run for the Tarpons.
With the game tied at one after nine, the Stone Crabs had taken the lead 2-1 in the top of the tenth on a Brendan McKay RBI single. After Tampa loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning on a walk and a single, Alexander Palma lined a base hit into right to tie the game at two.
Before extra innings, Tuesday's matchup featured a pitcher's duel between Charlotte's Brock Burke and Tampa's Nick Green.
Burke allowed only one run on four hits over 6.1 innings, fanning six while walking two.
Green, meanwhile, gave up one run on two hits, striking out five over six quality innings.
Stone Crabs shortstop Tristan Gray recorded the team's first three hits, finishing the night a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI double in the fourth.
Charlotte reliever Reimin Ramos worked 1.2 scoreless innings before Reece Karalus (0-1) made his first outing of the year for the Stone Crabs. Karalus pitched a scoreless ninth inning before surrendering the winning runs in the tenth.
The Crabs are now 6-13 in games decided by two runs or less.
The Stone Crabs will look to take the rubber game of the series over Tampa Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Brandon Lawson (1-4, 5.36) makes the start for Charlotte against Wil Carter (0-2, 6.07) of the Tarpons. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
