Curlis Strikes Out 13 in 5-2 Loss

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Lookouts dropped game two, 5-2, to the Biloxi Shuckers on Wednesday afternoon from AT&T Field.

Connor Curlis set a new season-high with 13 strikeouts, the most since Andrew Abbott sat down 12 on May 14 against Mississippi. Stevie Branche and JC Keys added on five more to match a team-high of 18 strikeouts in a single game.

TJ Hopkins got Chattanooga (31-28) on the board first in the second with a solo shot. Biloxi (27-3) quickly answered with a pair of runs in the third. Michael Siani tied it back up with his seventh home run of the year in the bottom half.

The Shuckers regained the lead in the fourth taking advantage of a Lookout error and tacked on two more insurance runs in the eighth to secure the, 5-2, win.

Hopkins went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the only Lookout with multiple hits. Curlis pitched six innings and was tagged with the loss allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with 13 strikeouts.

Noah Zavolas got the start for the visitors picking up his first win going six innings giving up four runs, two hits, a walk, and fanned eight. Zach Vennaro picked up his fifth save of the year pitching the ninth allowing just a hit and struck out a batter. Noah Campbell paced the Shucker offense with a 2-for-3 contest including a double.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow at AT&T Field. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
