Starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe and outfielder Jimmy Kerrigan each had big nights in the Lookouts 5-3 win over the Jackson Generals at AT&T Field.
In the victory Thorpe only allowed one run in five innings to improve his record to 8-4. Since June 13, the lefty is 6-0 with a 2.10 ERA and 66 punch outs. Kerrigan supported Thorpe's strong outing with plenty of offense. The number nine hitter went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a two-run homer.
Zander Wiel and Brent Rooker also had stand out nights for the home team. Wiel smoked a two-run single in the second inning to give the Lookouts the early lead. Rooker followed that up with his 21st homer of the year in the fifth.
After Thorpe left the game in the sixth, Andrew Vasquez came in and threw two hitless innings. The lefty has now struck out at least three batters in 10 of his 13 appearances since rejoining the team.
Despite the win the Lookouts are still 6.5 games back of the Montgomery Biscuits for first place. Tomorrow is Thirsty Thursday at AT&T Field and RHP Tyler Wells is making his first career Double-A start. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
