There have been 31 players who made their major league debut after playing for the El Paso Chihuahuas. Here are the seven that did so this past season:
Fabio Castillo appeared in seven games for the Chihuahuas in 2016 and signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017. He reached the majors for two games with Los Angeles, with both appearances coming at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres.
Franchy Cordero had two stints with the Padres this season and played in his first 30 major league games. He hit 21 combined triples between El Paso and San Diego, the most in all of professional baseball.
Dinelson Lamet (pictured above) struck out 13 Tacoma Rainiers on April 20 to set the Chihuahuas' single-game record. Lamet made his MLB debut on May 25 vs. the Mets, got the win and started 20 more games for the Padres in 2017.
Kyle Lloyd had a memorable 2017 season. He threw a Double-A no-hitter on May 13 for San Antonio, was promoted to El Paso two weeks later and made his MLB debut for the Padres on July 25.
Phil Maton finished fifth in the Pacific Coast League in saves with 13 despite leaving El Paso for San Diego on June 11. Maton pitched in 46 games for the Padres and got his first MLB win and save early in his stint there.
Kyle McGrath pitched for the Chihuahuas in 2016 and 2017 and made his MLB debut for the Padres on July 30, 2017 at Petco Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates. McGrath performed well in the big leagues, posting a 2.84 ERA in 17 games.
Christian Villanueva hit 20 home runs for the Chihuahuas and brought his power to San Diego, popping four home runs in his first 12 major league games.
