The El Paso Chihuahuas fell to the Las Vegas 51s 8-7 in the opener of an eight-game homestand. With first place Salt Lake's loss at Sacramento, the Chihuahuas remain two games out of first place with 23 games remaining on the 2017 schedule.
Franchy Cordero went 3-for-4 with a solo home run to begin the bottom of the first. It was El Paso's first leadoff home run since Rafael Ortega's on April 27th against Salt Lake. Cordero also hit a triple, his 13th of the season, which set a new Chihuahuas' single-season record. Cordero leads the Pacific Coast League in triples, despite playing in only 72 of El Paso's 119 games this season.
Chihuahuas' all-time home run leader Cody Decker went 1-for-3 with a home run and two walks in his first game at Southwest University Park as a visiting player. Friday's game had a rain delay in the bottom of the second inning.
