Hall Shines in Doubleheader Split

Darick Hall made a splash in his Clearwater debuting, going deep in both ends of the doubleheader as the Threshers split a pair with Charlotte, falling 8-2 and winning 3-2 at Charlotte Sports Park.
Hall was promoted to Clearwater on Tuesday, after he was named the MVP of the South Atlantic League. The 22-year-old set Lakewood Blue Claws records for home runs (27) and RBIs (96) while batting .272 in 114 games.
Clearwater (66-67, 28-35) remains three games back of the Dunedin Blue Jays, with just five left to play.
Charlotte (67-63, 36-36) went ahead in the first inning of game one, plating three runs off Ranger Suárez (2-4). Ryan Boldt's triple to center brought home two, and Boldt would score on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of David Olmedo-Barrera.
The Threshers found themselves down 8-0 after the Stone Crabs added two in the third and three more in the fifth.
Cornelius Randolph opened the sixth inning by sending one over the wall in right-center for his 13th home run of the season. Hall then connected out to left-center, going back-to-back with Randolph for his first long ball with Clearwater.
Hall was at it again in game two.
Down 1-0 in the third inning, Mark Laird and Jose Gomez each singled, and a wild pitch advanced both into scoring position. Randolph pulled a grounder to second, scoring Laird to tie the ballgame at one.
Hall stepped in and took a called strike, then turned on the next offering and belted a two-run home run to right-center to put the Threshers ahead 3-1.
JoJo Romero gave Clearwater five innings in the start and held Charlotte to two runs on five hits and a pair of walks. He struck out seven in the victory.
Trevor Bettencourt tossed a scoreless sixth inning, before the Stone Crabs put a pair on with a two-out walk and a single in the seventh.
With the tying run at third, Bettencourt induced a grounder to third from Michael Brosseau to end the ballgame, earning his second save for Clearwater.
The series concludes on Wednesday morning at 10:05 a.m. with Seranthony Domínguez (4-3) on the hill against Brock Burke (4-6).
