CLEARWATER, Fla. - Austin Listi delivered three hits including the game-winner on Tuesday night, as the Threshers walked off with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings over the Tampa Tarpons at Spectrum Field.
Listi finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, homering in the first inning and knocking home Grenny Cumana to plate the decisive run in the bottom of the 10th.
Adonis Medina did not factor in the decision after holding Tampa (34-31) off the board through the first six frames. The right-hander scattered five hits and a walk while picking up five strikeouts. Over his last four outings, Medina has permitted only four runs (three earned) across 23 innings.
Listi got Clearwater (29-34) an early lead, cracking a two-run home run into the bullpen beyond the wall in left to put the Threshers up 2-0. The longball was Listi's ninth of the season.
Clearwater tacked on in the third, after Henri Lartigue opened the frame with a single to right, and Raul Rivas hit into a forceout at second.
With two down, Grenny Cumana delivered a single through the right side to score Rivas and extend the lead to 3-0.
After Luis Cedeno entered in the seventh to make his Threshers debut, Ryan Lidge walked and David Metzgar singled to bring the tying run to the plate.
Ben Ruta then sent a double to left to score one, and Jose Pujols' throw in to second caromed off Ruta, allowing Metzgar to score on the error. Diego Castillo followed with a single to tie the game at three.
Jakob Hernandez entered with the go-ahead on and nobody out in the seventh, and tossed two scoreless innings in relief, picking up a pair of strikeouts.
Josh Tols (1-0) took over in the eighth and held Tampa off the board through the next two, stranding the free runner in the 10th to keep the game knotted at three.
With Cumana standing at second as the free runner to open the bottom of the 10th, Adam Haseley reached on a one-out error, and Listi got ahead in the count 2-0 against Matt Wivinis (0-1).
Listi then ripped a hard grounder down the third base line to bring home Cumana and send the Threshers home a walkoff winner.
Clearwater will battle Tampa at 10:30 a.m. on camp day, with Mauricio Llovera on the hill against Albert Abreu. The game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com beginning at 10:15 a.m.
