BOX SCORE

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Johan Rojas went two-for-four and stole back-to-back bases to contribute to the Threshers 5-3 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night.

Clearwater (8-9) was the first on the board with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Abrahan Gutierrez and Baron Radcliff drew consecutive walks to put two runners on base. Rixon Wingrove stepped up to the plate and smacked a ground ball double into right field to score both men on the bases. Ben Pelletier followed with a single to center to score Wingrove and gave the Threshers a 3-0 lead.

Dunedin (6-11) chipped away at the advantage in the top of the fourth with a PK Morris double that scored two and made it a one-run ball game.

The Threshers extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rojas drew a walk to lead off the inning and promptly stole second and then third base. Luis Garcia cracked a sacrifice fly to right field to push Rojas across the plate and widen the gap to a 4-2 advantage. Casey Martin then took a free base on balls and swiped his eighth base of the season to put a man in scoring position, and Gutierrez extended his hit streak to 12 games with an RBI line drive to center to score Martin and push the Threshers ahead 5-2.

The Blue Jays threatened in the top of the ninth after Mackenzie Mueller and Juan Solarte both drew walks, but Carlos A Francisco was able to finish the inning and earn the save with a ground out and the Threshers won 5-3 on Saturday night.

RHP Mick Abel had a solid start with the Threshers; the first-round draft pick allowed one hit while striking out four in three scoreless innings on the mound. RHP Dylan Castaneda (2-0) was credited the win for the Threshers. He allowed two runs on three hits and recorded four strikeouts in four frames of work.

Clearwater looks to split the series in the final game of the homestand on Sunday afternoon. RHP Victor Vargas gets the start for the 12:00 p.m. matinee. TICKETS
