BOX SCORE

*TAMPA, FL - *Despite rallying back in the ninth, the Clearwater Threshers fell in walk-off fashion 5-4 in 10 innings to the Tampa Tarpons on Saturday night at Steinbrenner Field.

Right-hander Jean Cabrera made his 12th start of the season on the mound for Clearwater, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

The Threshers (12-23, 47-53) opened the scoring with single runs in third and fourth innings, pushing home two runs on one passed ball and one wild pitch. Shortstop Eric Brito and first baseman Jamari Baylor scored the two runs, respectively.

With the visitors leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Tarpons (21-12, 48-51) stormed back with three runs on RBI singles by Alexander Vargas and Antonio Gomez, as well as an error on Baylor to make it 3-2.

After left-hander Jordan Fowler worked three impressive scoreless innings out of the bullpen, the Threshers were able to rally in the top of the ninth. A passed ball, two wild pitches, an RBI single by Alexeis Azujae to tie it (playing in his first game since May 24) and a go-ahead RBI base knock by Brito made it 4-3 Clearwater.

Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, the Threshers turned to righty Sam Jackobsak for the save but Alexander Vargas launched a solo home run out to the stands in right with one out to tie the contest 4-4.

Tied 4-4 in the top of the 10th, and despite having an automatic runner placed at second base, the Threshers were unable to squeeze anything home off Zach Kohn. Clearwater did appear to score on an infield single by Troy Schreffler as the runner was originally ruled safe at first base, but the call was soon overturned after an umpire discussion.

In the bottom of the 10th, Jacobsak returned to the mound and allowed a leadoff game-winning single to Madison Santos to give the Tarpons a 5-4 walk-off victory.

Clearwater and Tampa will wrap up the six-game series on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. Right-hander Gunner Mayer (1-2, 3.49 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Threshers, who will try to secure four of six games from the Tarpons. Coverage on the Threshers Broadcasting Network will begin at 11:50 a.m.
