CLEARWATER, Fla. - Luke Williams collected three more hits, and Raul Rivas drove in a season-high three runs as the Threshers earned their second straight win over Dunedin, 8-3 on Elvis Night at Spectrum Field.
Williams finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and has put up multiple hits in five of his last seven games.
Dunedin (0-2) (31-39) jumped ahead on the first pitch of the ballgame, when Josh Palacios lined an opposite field homer to left off Bailey Falter to immediately put the Blue Jays up, 1-0.
Jose Pujols answered for Clearwater in the second.
On a two-strike pitch from Thomas Pannone (0-1), Pujols launched a high drive to right that cleared the fence for his 10th long ball of the season, knotting the game up at one.
Clearwater (2-0) (34-36) grabbed the lead an inning later, after Grenny Cumana opened the frame with a double to left. Jose Gomez moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt, and following a walk to Arquimedes Gamboa, Adam Haseley delivered a sacrifice fly to center to put Clearwater up, 2-1.
The offense came alive again in the fourth, after Pujols doubled to left, and Lartigue followed with a single. Williams followed with a double to left-centerfield to plate Pujols, and Rivas' grounder to short pushed home Lartigue. Cumana singled in Williams to extend the lead to 5-1.
With one down in the fifth, Edgar Cabral rocked a triple off the left-centerfield wall, and Lartigue brought him in with a two-out RBI single. The Blue Jays went to the bullpen and brought in lefty Juliandry Higher, but Williams greeted him with a single to center, and Rivas snuck a double inside the right field line to score two more and make it an 8-1 game.
Falter worked five strong innings in his first start since June 4, holding Dunedin to just a run on five hits without issuing a walk. He racked up nine strikeouts in the win.
Kyle Dohy made his season debut and tossed two innings in relief, permitting just an unearned run on two hits while picking up three strikeouts.
Game three of the series is set for Saturday at 6:15 p.m., with Mauricio Llovera on the bump against Tayler Saucedo. The game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6 p.m.
