DAVENPORT, IA (April 22, 2017) - In a Saturday matinee at Modern Woodmen Park the Clinton LumberKings set a new season-high for hits, 13, in a 6-1 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits. The win is just the second of the year for the LumberKings (7-9) away from Ashford University field.

In the first game in nearly a week of baseball the River Bandits (9-7) failed to go deep for a home run. The offense for Quad Cities was limited to a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Clinton starter Ljay Newsome gave up two hits in the first inning, the last, a two-out RBI single to Spencer Johnson that scored Rodrigo Ayarza for Quad Cities first and only run of the game.

Newsome (3-1) allowed very little following the first inning. The righty turned in his second straight quality start to register his third consecutive win.

In the top of the fourth inning, the LumberKings gave Newsome a lead he would not relinquish. Dimas Ojeda singled to right center with men on second and third base to score two and give the LumberKings a 2-1 lead. Ojeda went 3-for-4 on the day, joining Luis Rengifo, Conner Hale, and Gareth Morgan as LumberKings with multiple hits.

Clinton added to their lead with a run in the top of the sixth, two runs in the top of the seventh, and a single run in the top of the eighth inning.

In the top of the seventh, Clinton recorded their first and only extra base hits of the game. Hale lead off the inning with his first triple of the year, and was followed by a Morgan RBI double to right center field. Johmbeyker Morales capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to right for his first RBI of the season.

Michael Koval relieved Newsome and threw two perfect innings of relief. Marvin Gorgas ended the game with a strikeout of Taylor Jones after the River Bandits loaded the bases against Clinton in the bottom of the ninth.

Enoli Paredes (0-1) started for Quad Cities and was hung with his first loss of the year for his 4 and 2/3 innings of work.

The win for the LumberKings snaps a five-game winning streak for the River Bandits.

The LumberKings will play fourth and final game of their series with the Quad Cities River Bandits Sunday afternoon. LHP Danny Garica (1-1, 2.45) will get the start for Clinton and face Quad Cities RHP Jorge Alcala (1-0, 1.86).
