Bisons capitalize on Columbus fielding mistakes

Defensive miscues proved to be the undoing of the Clippers as Columbus fell to Buffalo 4-1 at Coca-Cola Field.

Columbus scored first with a Matt Carson RBI groundout in the top of the second. It provided some early run support for Dominican righty Danny Salazar who struck out six in four innings. The game would be held up due to rain for one hour and nineteen minutes before play resumed in the top of the fifth.

The Bisons tied the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to the oddest set of circumstances. Buffalo's Moises Sierra took off from first on a steal attempt. Clippers catcher Roberto Perez's throw went into the outfield. Outfielder Ezequiel Carrera tried throwing out Sierra at third, but his throw went into the seats, allowing Sierra to come around to score.

Clint Robinson later plated another run in the sixth for the Bisons with an RBI double, giving Buffalo a 2-1 lead. Mauro Gomez would also pad the Bisons' advantage with a two run homer over the left field wall.

 For the rest of the game, Columbus was held off the scoreboard due to the foursome of Sergio Santos, Jeremy Jeffress, Tommy Hottovy, and Neil Wagner who held the Clippers to two hits for the final five innings of plays. Jeffress (W, 1-0) was awarded the win for Buffalo. Matt Langwell (L, 3-3) was hit with the loss for Columbus. Wagner (S, 14) nailed down the win for the Bisons in the ninth.

These two teams will be back at it at Coca-Cola Field on Wednesday night. The Clippers will give the ball to Daisuke Matsuzaka (2-5, 4.26). Buffalos will counter with righty Thad Weber (3-4, 2.65). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
