Clippers rise above Tides 6-2

The Columbus Clippers (10-12) beat the Norfolk Tides (7-16) 6-2 Sunday afternoon. Two big innings for the Clippers were all they needed to get to double digit wins on the season. The Clippers scored all six of their runs on three home run balls.

Trevor Bauer (3-0, 1.40 ERA) was fantastic notching a quality start and the win. He went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Eddie Gamboa took the loss allowing all six runs on five hits and four walks though he did strike out six.

Columbus got a couple of big innings in the game. In the second inning Carlos Moncrief started the inning with a solo homer, his first of the season, to make it 1-0. Still in the second Roberto Perez hit a two-run blast to make it 3-0 Clippers.

The Clippers got another three-run inning in the sixth. Moncrief led off the frame with a single and stole his way to third base. With Perez up and two outs the Tides decided to pitch around the Columbus catcher. Audy Ciriaco was the next man up and made Norfolk pay dearly with a 3-run homer to give Columbus a 6-2 lead.

Jose Ramirez got his first day off of 2014 making Jesus Aguilar the only Clipper to start in every game. The homers for Moncrief and Ciriaco were the first for each on the season.

Game three of the series at Norfolk is slated for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch Monday night. The probable starters are T.J. House (1-1, 2.08 ERA) for Columbus and Suk-min Yoon (0-3, 6.75 ERA).
