Clippers shut out by Indy 3-0

Columbus falls to 2-2 on the season
April 7, 2013

Despite a good outing from Clippers righty Fernando Nieve, Columbus could not muster any offense as the Indians shut out the Clippers 3-0 at Victory Field.

Indianapolis got off to a quick start offensively when a fly ball hit by Brandon Inge just snuck over the right field wall for a solo homer to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. Another run would cross the plate for Indy in the bottom of the fifth when Lucas May came around to score on Columbus catcher Yan Gomes' throw to third that went into left field. Darren Ford added an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

Venezuelan right-hander Fernando Nieve (L, 0-1) had an impressive start on the mound for Columbus, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out seven and walking two in six innings of work. Unfortunately, his teammates could not muster any offense to back him as the Clippers left six runners on base en route to being shutout for the first time in 2013. Kris Johnson (W, 1-0) got the victory for the Indians. Vic Black (1) tallied the save for Indy.

Columbus departs Indianapolis and will continue their road trip by beginning a three game set with the Louisville Bats. Left-hander David Huff (29-12 w/ Columbus over the last four seasons) will start for the Clippers while the Bats will counter with right-hander Daniel Corcino (8-8, 3.01 w/ Pensacola in 2012). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
