Clippers suffer extra inning heartbreak

Bulls win it on Anderson's walk-off hit in tenth
July 2, 2013

The Bulls captured a series win over the Clippers by defeating Columbus 6-5 in ten innings on a walk-off RBI single by Leslie Anderson.

In the bottom of the first, Cole Figueroa got the Bulls on the board with an RBI double to right field. Vince Belnome later added to the lead with an RBI single to center in the same inning.

Durham would keep swinging the bats and getting good results. Leslie Anderson crushed a solo shot over the right field wall in the bottom of the fourth. Columbus then took a bite out the Bulls lead with an Ezequiel Carrera two run single to left. Unfortunately, Durham got both of those runs back with the help a two run shot by Shelley Duncan in the bottom of the sixth.

Columbus would not go down without a fight. In the top of the seventh, Tim Fedroff drove home a run with an RBI single to left field. That would then be followed by RBI sacrifice flies by Chun Chen and Nate Spears. The three run inning tied the game at 5-5.

Nine innings was not enough to decide this game so the contest would go to extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, Durham pulled out the victory with a game winning RBI single by Leslie Anderson. Kirby Yates (W, 3-1) got the win for the Bulls. Scott Barnes (L, 3-3) took the loss for Columbus.

The Clippers head back to Ohio as they begin a short two game series with the Mud Hens in the Glass city of Toledo. Columbus will have young righty Trevor Bauer (3-2, 4.13) get the start on the mound. The starter for Toledo has yet to be announced. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
