Clippers sunk by Indians in extras

Five runs for Indianapolis in the top of the twelth inning proved to be the difference as Columbus dropped an 8-3 result to the Indians in twelve innings. 

The Indians put up two runs in the top of the fourth on a Tony Sanchez RBI double and a Jared Goedert RBI single. For Columbus, scoring was difficult to come by early on in this game. The Clippers grounded into three double plays in the first five innings of play, including a 5-4-3 twin kill when Columbus had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fifth.

The Clippers finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Nate Spears drove home two with a single to right. Unfortunately for Columbus, Indy quickly got the lead back with an RBI double by Ivan De Jesus Jr. in the top of the seventh.

The Clippers would show some resolve by making it a 3-3 game with the aid of a Juan Diaz RBI double in the bottom of the seventh. Regulation innings were not enough for extra innings were played in the Arena District.

The score would remained tied until the top of the twelfth when Alex Presley plated Josh Harrison with an RBI single to center. That was followed by a Matt Hague RBI sacrifice fly, a Tony Sanchez RBI single and a two run double by Andrew Lambo. It all added up to a five run frame for Indianapolis as they came away with a win in a game that took thirteen innings to play.

Vic Black (W, 1-2) got the win for the Indians. Clippers catcher Omir Santos (L, 0-1), who had to come on to pitch in the twelfth, was hit with the loss for Columbus. Duke Welker (S, 5) closed it out for Indianapolis.

The Indians and Clippers will continue their series with one another Tuesday night. Columbus will give the ball to lefty T. J. House (1-9, 5.86). Indy will counter with righty Graham Godfrey (2-1, 6.29). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
