Hessman's homer leads Bats past Columbus

Clippers blanked for 13th time in 2013
July 6, 2013

The bats for Columbus went quiet as the Clippers were blanked 1-0 in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Huntington Park.

There would be no scoring in this game until the top of the fifth when Louisville's Mike Hessman launched a massive solo shot into the left field bleachers. That would turn out to be the only form of offense in terms of runs in this game. Columbus would only total four hits in this seven inning affair.

Nick Christiani (W, 5-2) got the win for Louisville. Fernando Nieve (L, 4-2) was saddled with the loss for Columbus.

The Bats and Clippers will bring down the curtain on their four game set on Sunday night. Columbus righty Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-4, 5.06) is scheduled to start on the mound. Louisville will opt to go with right-hander Chad Reineke (7-5, 3.11). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
