Late Homers carry Columbus to victory

Hunter, Carson each go deep in Clippers win
April 22, 2013

Late Homers by Cedric Hunter and Matt Carson carried the Clippers to victory as Columbus shut out Toledo 3-0 at Huntington Park.

The Clippers received a good pitching performance from righty Joe Martinez. The New Jersey native shut out the Hens for six innings on four hits while tallying a strikeout and walk apiece.

In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on second and one out, Cedric Hunter bashed a two run shot off of the Columbus Dispatch Scoreboard to give the Clippers a 2-0 edge. Matt Carson added a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth.

Preston Guilmet (S, 5) came on in the top of the ninth and retired the Mud Hens to earn the save. Matt Langwell (W, 2-0) picked up the win for Columbus. Duane Below (L, 1-2) took the loss for the Hens.

The Clippers will pack their bags as they embark on an eight game road trip with the first four games being played at PNC Field in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The newly named RailRiders will send right-hander Dellin Betances (0-2, 13.50) to the hill. Columbus counters with righty Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-1, 5.56). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
