Lobstein, Hens hold off Clippers

Toledo lefty hurls six shutout innings
August 31, 2013

The Mud Hens defeated Columbus 4-1 at Fifth Third Field.

Nick Castellanos gave Toledo an early 2-0 lead with a two run homer in the bottom of first. The Mud Hens later doubled that lead to 4-0 with an Argenis Diaz two run single in the top of the fifth.

Kyle Lobstein blanked the Clippers on three hits while striking out six in his six innings of work. The Clippers tallied a run on a Matt LaPorta solo homer in the top of the ninth, but that would be it for Columbus. Lobstein (W, 6-3) got the win for Toledo. Paulo Espino (L, 4-6) took the loss for Columbus. Jose Alvarez (S, 1) tallied the save for the Mud Hens.

The Mud Hens and Clippers will meet again at Huntington Park on Sunday night. Toledo will have right-hander Jair Jurrjens (7-9, 4.68) get the start on the mound. The Clippers will retaliate with righty Josh Tomlin (1-0, 2.70). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
