Pigs take series finale against Clippers

Columbus saw their seven game winning streak snapped as they fell to Lehigh Valley 2-1 at Coca-Cola Park.

The Clippers drew first blood on the scoreboard with a Chun Chen sacrifice fly in the top of the first. The Pigs then tallied two runs in the bottom of the third on RBI doubles by Cesar Hernandez and Freddy Galvis.

Two left-handers started on the mound for their respective ball clubs. Columbus southpaw T.J. House was very solid, striking out seven while scattering two runs on eight hits in six innings. On the other side, Lehigh Valley lefty Greg Smith baffled the Clippers while pitching on the mound. Smith restricted Columbus to one run on four hits while striking out two in eight innings of work.

The Clippers would try to rally one last time in the top of the ninth. They had bases loaded with one out, but a pop-out to shortstop by Tim Fedroff and Luis Hernandez lineout to shortstop put rest of any thought of a Columbus comeback.

Smith (W, 5-1) was awarded the victory for Lehigh Valley. House (L, 3-10) took the loss for the Clippers. Zach Miner (S, 2) tallied the save for the Iron Pigs.

Columbus will head to Buffalo to start a four game series with the Bisons on Monday night. The Clippers will send righty Trevor Bauer (4-2, 4.06) to the mound. The Bisons will retaliate with lefty Rickey Romero (2-3, 5.56). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
