Red Sox beat Clippers in extras

Fedroff drives in three in extra inning affair
June 19, 2013

For the second straight night, the Clippers ended a game on a heartbreaking note as they fell to Pawtucket 5-4 in ten innings at Huntington Park.

Columbus drew first blood on the scoreboard with a Tim Fedroff solo homer in the bottom of the second. An inning later, Matt Carson doubled that lead with an RBI double down the right field line. Later on in that frame, Fedroff came up clutch again, driving in two runs with a single to right to give his club a 4-0 advantage.

The Red Sox would rally in the later innings. They would tally two runs in the top of the fifth on RBI singles by Jackie Bradley Jr. and Drew Sutton. They plated another run in the top of the sixth on a suicide squeeze by Justin Henry. The game was then tied on a Sutton RBI double in the top of the seventh.

Pawtucket eventually grabbed their first lead of the game when Bradley Jr. forced home a run with a bases loaded walk in the top of the eighth. Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Ezequiel Carrera led off the inning with solo shot to tie things at 5-5.

Regulation innings were not enough so we went to extras to decide this affair. In the top of the tenth, Dan Butler helped Pawtucket reclaim the lead with a deep solo homer to the left field bleachers. The Clippers tried to rally in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jeremy Hermida struck out swinging to end the game.

The curtain will come down on this four game series as Columbus and Pawtucket get together for the final time in the 2013 regular season on Thursday night. The Clippers will give the ball to lefty T.J. House (1-6, 5.46). The Red Sox will have righty Allen Webster (5-1, 2.98) get the start on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
